Interview: AI is a breakthrough technology. We cannot yet fully grasp where it might take us

In an interview, Michal Novák – our Country Manager for the Czech Republic, explained where we are heading and how we are working with AI. He also shared that many manufacturing companies are diving into digitalisation without sufficient cybersecurity. Network infrastructure is becoming a key part of their operations, but it often remains inadequately protected.

You’ve recently become the Country Manager for Soitron in the Czech Republic. Are any changes on the horizon?

Soitron Group is one of the leading IT solutions system integrators with a turnover of more than CZK 4.7 billion. For seven years, we have operated in the Czech and Slovak markets as a single entity, which enabled us to use our resources effectively and support growth. To better respond to our customers’ needs, we merged some of our business units and extended our pre-sales team with a new layer of architects. These specialists will be closer to customers, helping them strategically plan their IT projects and offering solutions with higher added value. This marks our shift from being a technology supplier to becoming an active partner – one that not only delivers solutions, but also helps customers define their business needs and jointly develops innovative projects.

You mentioned ongoing changes in the IT industry. What kind of changes are you referring to?

Previously, IT was seen solely as an unavoidable budget item the role of which was to reduce costs and ensure operational efficiency. Today, it is becoming a strategic pillar of business, driving innovation and directly impacting the value that companies deliver to their customers. Another change relates to our own transformation. While we’ve always focused on quality and efficiency, technological advancement now allows us to deliver even greater added value to our customers.

Why was the position of Country Manager for the Czech Republic created?

The Czech and Slovak markets share many similarities, which enabled us to operate as a single organisation for many years. However, the Czech market is larger and more dynamic, with a greater number of businesses, which is where we are now placing more focus. Historically, we were strong in the small and medium-sized business segment. In recent years, we have successfully entered the enterprise segment, and this is where we see tremendous potential.

So, the key to growth lies with large clients and complex projects?

Working with large clients means larger projects, which are more challanging to deliver, but they also bring significant growth potential. These customers have high expectations when it comes to process management, cybersecurity and service quality, giving us the opportunity to showcase our strengths.

What are the main challenges to maintaining double-digit revenue growth over the next three years?

The main factor is maintaining a high level of service quality amid rapid growth, which requires detailed processes and strong quality control. It’s also essential to continuously grow the team with talented professionals who not only understand technology but also share our vision and values. Equally important is the consistent growth of our customer portfolio. We need to focus on expanding cooperation with new and strategic partners. In a highly competitive environment, offering high-quality services is a must, but what really sets us apart is our ability to deliver on promises and provide long-term value.

Is AI influencing your business? How are you implementing it in your internal processes?

We have many IT enthusiasts in our team who began testing ChatGPT and other tools as soon as they became available. At the end of 2024, we started implementing them systematically. This year, we’ve also launched an adoption campaign that includes training and sharingspecific case studies with our colleagues. We also use AI to help us create documentation and pre-sales materials.

Which areas do you see as most important for AI adoption?

As a system integrator, we develop tailored solutions for our clients on platforms from leading global IT providers like Cisco, Microsoft and others. These providers are increasingly integrating AI into their products, and we are responding to this trend. We see the strongest impact in the area of assistive tools that help users configure systems. AI is also making strides in cybersecurity, where it can detect threats more broadly than human capabilities allow. In contact centres, AI-driven automation using chatbots and voice assistants significantly improves communication efficiency. But it’s also important to keep in mind AI’s limitations, such as the potential for errors or lack of transparency. Nevertheless, we believe that AI is a revolutionary technology still in its early stages and it will play a key role in the digital transformation of businesses.

You have your own AI tool called Millada. How does it work?

Millada is a product developed by our sister company Millennium, part of the Soitron Group. It allows companies to securely integrate large language models while connecting AI to their internal data. The main advantage is that data never leaves the company environment, ensuring a higher level of security. Users can interact with Millada using natural language and instantly retrieve relevant information—without the need for complex reporting or analytical tools.

How do you support companies in transitioning to cloud technologies?

We help them move towards a modern cloud-native approach. For most companies, we recommend a hybrid model that efficiently combines public and private cloud to optimise their IT infrastructure. Cloud-native architecture offers significant benefits – it unifies IT services which greatly simplifies their management. We work with both global cloud service leaders and local providers.

What’s your view on the massive investments by US companies into cloud technologies?

These investments are largely driven by the development of large language models, which place huge demands on infrastructure. We see AI as a technological phenomenon comparable to the advent of the internet. So it’s not surprising that visionary, well-funded companies are investing heavily in this area. For Soitron, it’s essential to be at the heart of this technological development. We specialise in delivering top-tier IT services and helping customers fully harness the potential of these innovative technologies.

Companies are increasingly requesting that their data remain within the Czech Republic. How do you respond to this?

Yes, there’s a growing demand for data to stay within the country, or at least within the European Union. The main reasons are security, legal compliance and control over data. That’s why we collaborate with providers that meet these criteria.

How do you assess the level of digital transformation and cyber protection among Czech companies?

The level of digital transformation among Czech companies varies greatly by sector. In banking, we see a highly advanced approach. Banks operate like modern IT companies with robust security measures. In contrast, many industrial firms are digitalising production without adequate protection. Machines are networked and transferring data, but cybersecurity is still underestimated. Network infrastructure often lacks sufficient protection, as digitalisation is typically led by production specialists whose primary expertise isn’t in IT. Our goal is to change this, which is why we focus on raising awareness. Companies investing in production digitalisation must also invest in cybersecurity. Over the past year, however, we’ve seen a positive shift. More and more firms are recognising the importance of cybersecurity and looking for ways to improve their defences.

Your plan is to expand your team in the Czech Republic. What kind of people are you looking for?

Given our dynamic growth, we’re looking for individuals with a strong desire for continuous development, learning new things, and pushing both personal and professional boundaries. Our aim is to find colleagues who share our passion for innovation and are bold enough to take on new challenges. We want to build IT systems at the highest level, and for that we need talented professionals ready to lead this technological progress.

Are you able to find such people in the Czech job market?

A few years ago, we faced serious challenges in talent acquisition. The market was almost stagnant, and finding qualified candidates was extremely difficult. Today, post-Covid, we’re seeing a positive rebound, and we’re successful in attracting valuable, high-quality professionals. The situation has definitely improved.

Soitron’s philosophy is to constantly improve. What does that look like in practice?

We place a strong emphasis on continuous learning and developing our employees’ practical skills. We work closely with vendors and partners to ensure our teams have access to the latest knowledge and technologies. We also focus on soft skills development and supporting career growth, enabling our employees to grow both professionally and personally. In terms of customer care, we are committed to delivering innovative solutions that genuinely add value. Our customers appreciate our ability and willingness to implement new technologies, while thoroughly assessing the associated risks and challenges. Ultimately, our primary goal is to build long-term partnerships and provide comprehensive support that leads to our customers’ success.
